Zimbabwe has forged a tripartite alliance with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) to ensure that the 2013 Victoria Falls General Assembly is a resounding success.
At a meeting which took place on the sidelines of the World Travel Market in the United Kingdom, the WTTC agreed to partner the UNWTO for the successful hosting of the UNWTO General Assembly in Victoria Falls through a strong presence of the organisation at the assembly.Â
The WTTC made its first commitment to support the event by also hosting its general assembly on the sidelines of the UNWTO General Assembly.
In an interview, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Cde Walter Mzembi said an agreement was reached between Zimbabwe and the WTTC President, Mr David Scowsil on the formulation of a strategic motivational paper on tourism investment and resource mobilisation for the sector in the two host countries.
Meanwhile, Minister Mzembi took the opportunity to correct earlier misinformation in the media that the United Nations Secretary General, Mr Ban Kin Moon would visit Zimbabwe to assess the host countries’ level of preparedness for the General Assembly in 2013, saying it is the UNWTO Secretary General and the President of the WTTC, who intend to visit the two host Presidents of Zimbabwe and Zambia for purposes of formally informing them of the decision to host the two general assemblies in Zimbabwe and Zambia.
