The Zimbabwe national sevens rugby side, the Cheetahs on Friday (today) held a fund-raising  golf tournament at Chapman which attracted corporates and players in a bid  to fundraise for the 2017-18 sevens rugby series and world cup in the San Francisco, United States.

The format of the golf tournament was the individual stableford played at Chapman Golf Club which saw some of the rugby players, coaches, administrators and technical team swop their rugby boots and jerseys for golf clubs.

The tournament attracted a number of corporates who partnered the Zimbabwe sevens rugby team with a US$100 000 sponsorship during the forthcoming world rugby series and Africa campaign series.

Sevens rugby chairman, Donald “Basco” Mangenje said the aim of the tournament was not only to fund-raise but also interact with the many rugby stakeholders in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

The sevens rugby team has set themselves a target of qualifying for the 2019 sevens rugby world cup in San Francisco as well as the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

The sevens rugby side is one of the most successful rugby sides in Zimbabwean history.

Many of the players were involved in the highest level of competition during the World Sevens Rugby Series as well as the Africa Cup.
