Zimbabwe scooped a silver medal at the just ended African Schools Individual Chess championships in Harare yesterday with 2 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 4 bronze medals.
The Zimbabwe Chess Federation TECHNUCAL DIRECTOR, Simbarashe Murimi said they learnt a lot from winners Botswana.
Zimbabwe hopes to take advantage of the grandmasters that will be brought to Zimbabwe under World Chess Federation’s efforts to develop chess in schools, homes and in the village.
Botswana who were winners in this African tournament scooped 3 gold medals, 3 silver and 3 bronze while Zimbabwe who came second, Kenya, Angola and Zambia also had two gold medals and were separated by the silver and bronze medals.
Zimbabwe’s gold medalists were Farai Hamandishe in the under 17 category and Tapiwanashe Madaka in the under eleven category.
