Business is excited at the forthcoming Zimbabwe – South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) as an opportunity to increase investment and industrial growth.
South Africa is Zimbabwe’s biggest trading partner but trade is tilted in favour of the neighbouring economy.
Buy Zimbabwe General Manager, Mrs Vandudzai Zirebwa said next week’s BNC meetings offer an opportunity to review existing trade agreements.
“The market is there for all to see, therefore we just anticipate that the meetings will unlock value on trade opportunities,” she said.
“While official figures show that Zimbabwe’s exports to South Africa are mainly unprocessed mineral and agricultural commodities, the two nations should also focus on technology and skills transfer,” Zimbabwe Farmers Union (ZFU) Chief Economist, Mr Prince Kuipa said.
Several agreements between Zimbabwe and South Africa are expected to be concluded next week as the two countries seek to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
