Zimbabwean-born South African Rugby Union player Tendai Mtawarira says the future looks bright for Zimbabwe rugby teams given the abundant talent in the country and has highlighted his desire to support the development of the sport back home with the setting up of an academy.

The talented Springbok rugby player known as “The Beast” and currently playing for the Sharks in the South African Rugby Competition said Zimbabwe has abundant talented and highlighted the need for increased investment in the development of the sport.

Mtawarira who was recently on holiday in the resort town of Victoria Falls commended the exceptional performance by the Cheetahs and maintained confidence in the ability of local national teams to reach greater heights with necessary support.

Commenting on the just concluded season, Mtawarira said it was disappointing that the Sharks lost in the quarter finals of the Super Rugby but is confident of a successful season in 2018 both with the club and the Springboks.

The Beast presents casts a rude reminder of the many sporting talent that Zimbabwe has lost out to other nations where athletes switch nationalities and adopt foreign citizenships owing to a more viable, structured, professional and lucrative sporting career that can raise their international profiles.
