Zimbabwe is poised to go into full scale lithium carbonate production and battery manufacturing and stands to benefit immensely as the demand for lithium compounds is likely to sky rocket as the world shifts towards adopting electrical cars to reduce carbon emissions.

A local company, Zimbabwe Lithium’s Managing Director, Mr John Taggaart today appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy and informed the National Assembly that the Mines and Mining Development Ministry has set up a committee to pursuing modalities around lithium carbonate production.

Mr Shopuming Lin, a partner in the Kamativi Mine Resuscitation Programme was grilled over failing to move with speed on the $100 million investment capital they agreed with the ZMDC he would inject into the project in 2015.

The Chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee, Mr Themba Mliswa breathed fire over the failure by foreign owned companies to adhere to set time frames and comply with government expectations.
