Tanaka Chabata, Brandon Levendale and Mark Chigaazira all succumbed to defeats in the first round of the International Tennis Federation Futures tourney at Harare Sports Club.

Chabata lost 2-6, 7-6, 2-6 to South Africa’s Altus Karsten while Levendale fell to a 1-6, 2-6 to Zach Itzstein of Australia.

Chabata and Levendale were both disappointed to be knocked out in the first round but said focus is now on doing better in the second leg.

Chigaazira lost 6-7, 6-3, 5-7 to Tyler Hochwalt but was happy with improvements to his game.

First round action will continue tomorrow with Benjamin Lock, Mehluli Sibanda and Mark Fyn hoping to secure second round berths in the first leg of the ITF Futures underway at Harare Sports Club.
