Action got underway at the Bulawayo municipal pools for the Zimbabwe National Senior Swimming Championships.

The annual national swimming extravaganza sees a number of the country’s top senior swimmers contesting in different races.

Participants are drawn from Manicaland, Mashonaland, Midlands and Matabeleland who are the hosts.

Defending champions Mashonaland have started well despite a spirited challenge from Matabeleland.

Organisers were forced to move from the 50 metre pool to the 25 metre one after it flooded as a result of a heavy storm experienced in Bulawayo.

Despite the minor setback, chairperson of the swimming controlling body, Tracey Doorman, was left satisfied by the reaction of the local organising committee and heaped praises on their organisational abilities.

She went on to indicate her excitement with the quality exhibited by the swimmers, noting that the competition was coming in handy especially with a number of regional and international meets lined up.

The competition is set to end tomorrow with the ever exciting relays expected to light up the venue.
