Zimbabwe today joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International Women’s Day amid calls by different women organisations for society to listen to the plight of women.
The day was set aside by the United Nations to celebrate the triumphs of women around the world.
Running under the theme: ‘Be Bold For Change’ the celebrations come against the backdrop of remarkable achievements Zimbabwe has made over the years to empower women.
In Zimbabwe, notable achievements have been recorded in economic, social and political spheres and several projects meant to benefit women are already on the cards as government affirms its commitment towards gender equality.
Today’s celebrations coincided with ongoing celebrations countrywide following the recent High Court decision to award women in unregistered customary marriages part of the property accumulated during the subsistence of such unions.
