Zimbabwe will be hoping to continue in winning fashion after getting off to a bright start with a 2 wicket victory against Ireland in the first of 3 ODI’s at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.

Having been involved in a nail biting contest, eventually beating Ireland on the very last ball in the first ODI, the Zimbabwe side will be looking up to Edward Rainsford who vindicated his call up by the selection panel, when he led Zimbabwe’s bowling attack by taking an impressive 4 wickets for 23 runs.

The likes of Christopher Mpofu and Graeme Cremer who form the core of Zimbabwe’s bowling attack, are also expected to play a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s search for victory in the second ODI.

Following an impressive bowling performance which saw the hosts restricting Irelands to just 200 runs, cricket analyst, Dean Duplesis however believes Zimbabwe need to improve on its batting.

“Zimbabwe definitely needs to improve on its batting performance when they take to the field in the second ODI on Tuesday, after not fairing that well in Sunday’s encounter when they chased Ireland’s 200 run total. I thought they lost too many wickets, obviously the early dismissal of Hamilton Masakadza not doing any good in Zimbabwe’s run chase, but credit should go to Rainsford who kept his cool at the end,” said Duplesis.

Zimbabwe is using its series with Ireland as part of preparation’s for their tour of South Africa next month, where they are scheduled to lock horns with the Proteas in 2 T-20 and 3 ODI encounters.
