Zimbabwe has been hailed for the strides it is making, particularly in empowering women.

This was said by visiting Namibian Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare Honourable Doreen Sioka who was in the company of senior officials from her ministry on a tour of projects in Zvimba West constituency.

Honourable Sioka says whilst the empowerment agenda has been met by posturing in many countries, her visit to Zimbabwe has certainly been an eye opener as to how the lives of communities can be transformed, particularly if development is determined from the grassroots.

The empowerment drive spearheaded by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development and with Member of Parliament for Zvimba West Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi, seeks to ensure that economic empowerment becomes a reality that people can relate to.

Beneficiaries of the project which include savings clubs, baking, soap making, pottery as well as small livestock projects say their lives have been radically transformed since the inception of the projects last year, adding that market linkages will assist them to benefit fully from the initiative.

The Namibian delegation also had the opportunity to visit a homestead where a biogas project has also been initiated in a bid to ensure the community is steered towards green energy.
