Zimbabwe is now safe from the threat of floods which were anticipated to be triggered by a tropical cyclone.
The Meteorological Services Department said Cyclone Dunda which was progressing from Mozambique has since weakened as it has reached the mainland resulting in hot weather conditions currently prevailing in the country.
Head Forecasting Services, Mr Tich Zinyemba says as of Monday evening, they were closely monitoring the movement of the cyclone, adding that so far Zimbabwe is now safe.
Turning to the heavy rains being experienced throughout the country, Mr Zinyemba noted that they are expected to persist till the 25th of January though some parts of the country including Matabeleland provinces are yet to receive adequate rains.
The country is still to recover from the adverse effects of floods and cyclones experienced in the past years with some bridges and infrastructure destroyed by Cyclone Eline in 2000 yet to be repaired.
