Zimbabwe’s food value chain industry is expecting strategic alliances with global firms at an African business expo to be held in South Africa next month.

The growth of the food value chain industry is being revised upwards on the back of a bumper harvest for the 2016/17 summer cropping season.

While the development has provided opportunities for growth, ZimTrade chief executive officer, Ms Sithembile Pilime says most locally based firms are interested in participating at the African business expo in South Africa to get access to strategic investors who can inject capital for growth.

“More still needs to be done but we are optimistic that the event can unlock more value for growth,” said Ms Pilime.

Despite the challenging macro-economic environment most of the food processing companies are on a recovery path following the inception of restrictive policies on selected imports.
