The Meteorological (MET) Services Department says the country is expecting rains beginning today which will likely trigger the beginning of the rain season.

The 2017-2018 rain season is expected to start this week with some parts expected to receive more than 50mm from today, an amount that will set the germination process of dry planted crops.

Weather forecaster MET Department, Mr John Mupuro told the ZBC News that although prediction cited the start of the season around mid November the rains expected beginning today has the potential to signal the beginning of the actual rain season.

Farmers have also been encouraged to get frequent weather information updates from agriculture experts on their operations depending on their regions.

Weather predictions have revealed that the country is expected to receive normal to above normal rainfall for the 2017-2018 farming season.
