Zimbabwe’s former Consul General to Beira, Mozambique, Cde John Chimbandi has died.

Cde Chimbandi died at Arundel Clinic in Harare last night after battling chest pains for some time.

Mr Chimbandi’s daughter, Tendai, told the ZBC News that his father suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder which affected his breathing.

She said the family is yet to finalise funeral arrangements as they are waiting for the arrival of Mr Chimbandi’s first daughter who is travelling from Australia.

Mr Chimbandi retired from government service in August last year having worked in the Foreign Affairs ministry in various capacities.

He was Minister Counsellor in Germany, China and Iran, before becoming the Consul General in Beira.

Mr Chimbandi is survived by 3 daughters and 1 grandson.

Mourners are gathered at number 11, Fletcher Road in Mt Pleasant, Harare.
