The Zimbabwe Under 15 and 18 darts teams are basking in glory after being crowned African Union Sports Council Region 5 champions following a dominant display at the games in Walvis Bay Namibia.

Team Zimbabwe shrugged off massive resistance from South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia to retain the African Union Sports Council Region 5 crown.

The major highlight of the regional darts tournament was the under 15 boys team which never tasted defeat at this year’s extravaganza.

The Zimbabwe team, led by the National Darts Association president Meynard Moyo, who is also the AUSC Region 5 darts boss, celebrated the country’s victory which he attributed to total commitment.

The boys U18 doubles final was the toast of the festivities as Zimbabwe’s duo of Matthew Maganda and Vacancy Chepiri who faced a very strong South African side which had Daywin Adams and Zander Steyn but still found a way to conquer.

The match was set for best of 5 rounds and had to go for the decider as the game was tied 2 all after 4 legs.

However, Maganda and Chepiri went pound for pound with their much fancied opponents, responding very well to South Africa’s first throws of 180 and 85 with successive 140s.

Zimbabwe were the overall winners with 218 points, followed by Botswana who scooped silver with 156 points while hosts Namibia settled for the wooden spoon with 106 points.

Meanwhile, the victorious team is back in the country with their tails swinging in the air following their good display.
