zim cricket.jpgLocal cricket experts have expressed disappointment with Zimbabwe’s failure to convert a commanding position into victory in Zimbabwe’s 5-run defeat to Pakistan in the first ODI at Queens Sports Club on Thursday.

After coming so close to posting what would have been a famous win over Pakistan, reservations have emerged over Zimbabwe’s performance with former national player, David Mutendera and cricket analyst Godfrey Koti indicating Zimbabwe’s failure to convert a strong position into victory had cost the team a series lead.

Despite the setback which sees Zimbabwe trailing 1-nil in the 3-match ODI series, Mutendera believes Allan Butchers charges have what it takes to overturn the 1-nil deficit.

After restricting Pakistan to 247 runs, Zimbabwe got off to a solid start thanks to impressive innings by Vusimuzi Sibanda and Brendan Taylor. Despite making 84 runs, captain, Brendan Taylor’s slow strike rate has however been viewed as part of a problem that increased pressure on batsmen that came down the order.

With the 5-run defeat water under the bridge, local cricket fans are expected to throng Harare Sports club in their thousands this Sunday as Zimbabwe attempts to level the series 1-1.
