The government has condemned the current xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
This comes as the Southern African Research and Documentation Centre is holding a workshop under the theme: ‘The SADC We Want.’
The Southern African Research and Documentation Centre is playing a critical role in the implementation of regional integration with a view to come up with a policy on the ideal SADC through consultative workshops.
In an interview with ZBC News, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cde Edgar Mbwembwe said the current xenophobic attacks defeat the spirit of togetherness and free movement of people and goods in the region.
He said SADC must facilitate trade and come up with sustainable sources of finance to reduce poverty.
In his inaugural speech as the Chancellor of UNISA, former South African president Thabo Mbeki condemned the attacks on foreigners and reminded South Africans not to forget the sacrifices made by fellow African nations in liberating their country.
