The Zimbabwe Davis Cup team has embarked on its final preparatory camp ahead of this weekend’s Euro-Africa Group II tie against Turkey at Harare Sports Club.

The final camp began in earnest on Monday with all the players now in camp following the arrival of Benjamin Lock from the ITF Futures tournaments in Turkey and Ayanda Mehluli Sibanda from South Africa.

The full strength Turkish team is expected in Harare this evening ahead of the tie scheduled for Friday through to Sunday.

Non-playing captain, Gwinyai Tongoona was happy to work with his full squad before the crucial tie on Friday.

All players looked sharp and confident during training at Harare Sports Club.

Lock said he was happy with his preparations especially following the trips to Thailand and Turkey where he played against top Turkish players he is also likely to face during the Davis Cup tie.

Young Mark Chigaazira said he is honoured to be representing the country, moreso alongside his role models Lock and Takanyi Garanganga.

Ayanda Mehluli Sibanda said it would be his third time to represent Zimbabwe at the highest level, the Davis Cup and hopes the team will post a favourable result especially playing at home.

Garanganga and Lock, who are ranked 438th 475 respectively, carry the country’s hopes of retaining the Euro-Africa Zone Group II status.
