Zimbabwe female boxing star Diana Makumbe has turned to mbira music following a career that has spanned for over 16 years.

Some believe dreams are an opposite of the truth but for Diana dreams reveal what tomorrow holds for her.

With her boxing career nearing an end, Diana who holds the Zimbabwe national female boxing title since 2001 is honouring her dream of playing the traditional instrument of mbira.

She is hoping to work with one of Zimbabwe’s best mbira groups, Mbira Dzenharira to perfect her skill.

The 35 year old boxer, who is known in boxing circles as Nehanda took part in an ABU title fight in Zambia last year where she got another traditional instrument as a token of appreciation from a fan.

She also aims to set up a boxing academy that will help in developing future stars in the country.

Diana has passed through the hands several trainers including Ottis Manyuchi, Issa Phiri and Anthony Mwamba of Zambia.

Diana fought 15 professional bouts, managing 3 wins, 3 draws and 9 losses.

She made her name in the amateurs category where she fought 24 times and winning 23 fights.

Diana and Monalisa Sibanda are some of the best female boxers ever to be produced by Zimbabwe.

Away from the boxing life, Diana’s new mbira playing career will see her recording her debut album after her stint with Mbira Dzenharira.
