boxing man.jpgThe ability of Zimbabwean boxers to stand the heat on the regional stage will come under scrutiny when 3 boxers take to the ring in a tournament in Zambia at the end of the month.

The 3 pugilists, Tinashe Mwadziwana and Silas Mandeya from Mosquito and Franks Boxing Stable and Charles Manyuchi from Zvobgo Boxing Promotions in Masvingo are determined to make their presence felt on the regional stage.

As the tournament beckons across the border, the boxers are brimming with confidence and are not leaving anything to chance in their quest to fly the country’s flag high on foreign land.

“We have stepped up preparations for the tournament and we hope to do the nation proud in Zambia,” said Mwadziwana.

2 boxing promoters, former Commonwealth Champion, Zvenyika Arifonso and Fred Frank say their primary objective is to put Zimbabwe back on the world map and believe weeks of intense preparations will bear fruit in Zambia.

“The guys are very much talented and we have great trust in them so we hope they will perform well in Zambia,” Arifonso said.

“We want boxing to regain its former glory days and this is the first step. One thing is for sure, these boxers will make the country proud,” Frank expressed his confidence.

The tournament, which is set for Zambia’s Mulungushi Conference Centre on the 29th of this month, is being hosted by Zambia’s Exodus Boxing Stable.

Silas Mandeya and Charles Mayuchi will represent Zimbabwe in the Welterweight Division, while Tinashe Mwadziwana will take to the ring in the Bantamweight category.
