The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has unveiled a new kit sponsor.
The UK based kit manufacturer will partner the country’s football mother body for the next three years, renewable after each year.
The kit sponsorship deal was unveiled during a media briefing that also launched the online ticketing platform by ZIFA partners.
The net value of the deal was not made public immediately but will see Umbro providing kits for all national teams starting with the Warriors’ crucial final 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville at the giant National Sports Stadium next month.
Unfortunately, there were no samples or kit designs on display due to the short period of time involved since both parties reached an agreement last week and were still working on the right colours and proposed designs.
ZIFA president Felton Kamambo said they had settled for Umbro as the official kit sponsors because they offered them the best deal and were a reputable kit manufacturer and supplier.
“Umbro are the official kit sponsors for the next three years. We are optimistic it will enhance our brand visibility as a football powerhouse in the region and they will also supply replicas,” said Kamambo.
Donnovan Bell – Umbro representative, said they were committed and excited to be dressing the Zimbabwe national teams from the Warriors, Mighty Warriors right down to the junior national teams appropriately during matches and when travelling.
“We stand proud to be associated with Zimbabwean football when they represent the country. We are ecstatic and can add value to your vision. Our objective is to make you proud,” he said.
Another official from Umbro Erol Dicks said the brand is guaranteed from fakes or counterfeit replicas through a hologram on the swing tag with a unique number which is used to identify genuine Umbro products.
“Our fundamentals have been incorporated, Zimbabwe has been a sleeping giant and its football brand compromised the need for commercial stability and sustainability. We will introduce the brand to all over the world and we are very excited about that. We target to sell over one million replicas within the next three years,” Dicks said.
An online ticketing system was also unveiled with the partners demonstrating how it works adding that they began selling tickets from the 1st of February where 700 tickets were sold during the first day of sales.
“This is the latest technology worldwide that we are using and it is guaranteed and convenient to the paying public. Tickets are selling fast, no tickets will be sold on the match day,” said Lee Masuka of Click and Pay – the online ticketing platform partner for ZIFA.
Zimbabwe national teams will join a league of teams donning this renowned sports brand among them English Premiership soccer teams Everton and West Ham in addition to several national teams such as Serbia, Northern Ireland, Peru and Botswana among others.
