women soccer.jpgThe Zimbabwe Football Association has hailed the massive development that has been registered in local women’s football, pledging they will unveil more resources to ensure the national team qualifiers for AFCON 2012.

The Mighty Warriors’ 3-0 victory in the Unity Cup challenge match against South Africa came as an eye opener that left the football authorities accepting responsibility to engage a more robust approach towards resourcing the women’s team to allow it to fully realise its dream.

ZIFA Acting president, Ndumiso Gumede said a committee to look into the teams’ preparations ahead of qualifiers was set up to ensure that things are done for the good of the teams.

For women soccer boss, Mavis Gumbo, whose year ended on a high note, the challenge will be to maintain the same form come mid January 2012 when the Mighty Warriors meet Botswana in the Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

So while the festive season offers much partying, Zimbabwe’s Mighty Warriors and Under 20s should be mindful that they are athletes and be cautious of what they eat to avoid excess fat.
