The country’s football governing body, ZIFA has extended assistance to Cyclone Idai survivors through a cash donation handed over to government.

ZIFA President, Felton Kamambo presented the donation of RTGS$37 133 to the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde July Moyo in Mutare this Sunday as the football community joins the list of organisations assisting survivors.

Kamambo said ZIFA will continue to donate to Cyclone Idai survivors using the same formula on games to come, while the Acting Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Cde Kazembe Kazembe said the football community could not be left out in assisting the survivors.

“We felt that we could not be left out in assisting the survivors. We will continue to render the necessary support in future,” said Cde Kazembe.

Cde July Moyo thanked the local football body and soccer fans for assisting the needy.

“We thank ZIFA for assisting cyclone Idai survivors. The donation is also supported by soccer fans hence the need for supporters to populate stadiums and support the victims,” Cde Moyo said.

A ZIFA annual general meeting held just before the 2019 AFCON qualifier match between Zimbabwe and Congo Brazzaville at the National Sports Stadium passed a resolution to donate a dollar for every ticket sold to Cyclone Idai survivors.
