The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) put forward some proposed amendments to the Electoral Act to the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs which if adopted in Parliament will make the management of polls less complicated.
ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba confirmed that they now await the parliamentary process to see if their proposed amendments were taken on board.
With elections expected anytime within the next five months, ZEC said it is completing the voters roll following the biometric voter registration and it is also attending to critical issues which will make the 2018 harmonised polls conform to the constitutional requirements and SADC guidelines.
The electoral mother body chairperson told the ZBC News that they also put forward proposed amendments to the Electoral Act which if taken on board will make polls management more fluid.
ZEC is also anticipating that government and its external partners such as the UNDP will assist in the provision of a $53 million shortfall as government is committed to pay $95 million from their request of $148 million.
