Some diplomats accredited to Harare have praised the contributions of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) towards safeguarding national territorial integrity and sovereignty and towards international duties.

They [diplomats] were speaking on the sidelines of ZDF Day celebrations at the National Sports Stadium in Harare today.

The diplomats from the SADC region, Africa and the developing world were part of the crowd that converged at the NSS for the celebrations.

The DRC Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador Mwanananga Mawampanga commended the huge role that ZDF plays at home and abroad and was not kind to those who were quick to condemn the defence forces for the post elections 01 August tragedy that saw the death of some citizens and unwanton destruction of property.

Ambassador Mawampanga said those who are castigating the army have not bothered to look into the roots of the problem but are quick to judge the actions of the army which was called in to help the police after some protesters  went on the rampage which left many business and private citizens counting their losses and some burying their relatives.

United Nations resident representative and coordinator Mr Bishow Parajuli was full of praise for the ZDF’s spotless reputation in international peacekeeping missions and duties, which saw a Zimbabwean national scooping an award in one peacekeeping mission last year.

Angola which is the current SADC organ chair, represented by the Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Hendrik Pedro Vaal Neto saluted the ZDF for its role at home and in the sub region and continent.

A representative of Palestine Mr Manar Alagha congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his party Zanu PF and urged the ZDF to work for peace and security and for the economic restoration of Zimbabwe.

Mr Amarjit Sarjit Sigh of Malaysia said it is time to translate the show of unity in the country to economic transformation for Zimbabwe.

The Algerian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Narcedine Sai and the Indonesian Ambassador Mr Stephanus Yuwono as well as Mr Tayeb Sadik Bachir, Counsellor of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic Embassy also heaped praises on Zimbabwe’s defence forces.

The ZDF works closely in different organisations and groupings with other developing countries for peace prosperity and growth in different countries.
