Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga has launched the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Community Week in Masvingo.

During the launch, the Vice President, who is also the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs, officially handed over a four lecture room block to the Reformed Church University which was built with the assistance of ZDF personnel.

Throughout the year, the ZDF carries out various projects, helping communities in building infrastructure like schools and hospitals.
During the ZDF Community Week, these projects are handed over to the communities.

For Masvingo Province, the ZDF partnered with the Reformed Church University in the building of a four block lecture room.

Vice President Chiwenga said such projects provide a platform to clearly demonstrate the defence forces’ secondary role of military aid to civil ministries and communities.

“During the community assistance week, the ZDF will be handing over various projects it undertook in the communities throughout Zimbabwe. Some of the major projects that are being handed over this week are in the Midlands and Masvingo provinces.

The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira applauded the ZDF for assisting in the construction of the lecture room block.

“The provision of good infrastructure means there is quality delivered in the education system,” he said.

In addition to participation in the community assistance projects, the ZDF also conducts medical outreach programmes where officers provide free medical, dental and pharmaceutical assistance to selected communities.
