The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC)’s Radio Zimbabwe and television news programme, Main News maintain pole positions amongst listeners and viewers alike, the latest the Zimbabwe All Media Products Survey results show.

Despite the liberalisation of the country’s airwaves to private players, ZBC’s flagship radio station, Radio Zimbabwe, is leading the pack in terms of nationwide listenership at 40 percent.

Among the urban radio stations, ZBC’s Power FM came out tops with 17% of market share.

ZBC Public Relations and Marketing Manager, Mrs Tsitsi Kanonge attributed this magnificent performnace to the national broadcaster meeting its audience’s needs.

National FM also gained ground, going up four percentage points to 17 percent nationally, with a bigger chunk of 21 percent listenership coming from the rural areas, owing to its programming in 15 official languages.

In the television segment, Main News got a whopping 68% national viewership, followed by the popular soap, Wenera at 50%.

The survey results also showed that ZBC’s digitilisation programme is bearing fruits with an increased penetration rate of 52% and 16% in urban and rural areas respectively in the past four weeks.
