The Zimbabwe Assemblies of God in Africa (ZAOGA) Forward-in-Faith members in Chinhoyi joined their contemporaries worldwide in celebrating 59 years of championing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

ZAOGA FIF is one of the indigenous churches that have stood the test of time, and marked 59 years of existence this May.

The church denomination’s Hunyani district joined fellow members in celebrating the anniversary at the International Christian Centre in Chinhoyi.

The celebrations were marked by poetry, song and dance.

Young people who spoke to ZBC News expressed joy at being part of the celebrations.

“We are celebrating 59 years today and we are happy,” said some of the congregants.

One of the senior members of the church Elder Benjamin Sabata said the history of the church is important for the young generation to appreciate its background and how it spread its tentacles worldwide.

“It’s very important for everyone to know how the church started as we go forward we have got new generations coming they should understand how the church started,” he said.

ZAOGA was formed in 1960 by Professor Ezekiel Handinawangu Guti.

Over the years, ZAOGA has not only championed the gospel of Jesus Christ but has supported government programmes in addition to provision of humanitarian aid.
