Zanu PF has won the Nyanga South local government seat ward 19, with Cde George John Mukoto beating an independent candidate, Judith Chigwanda in yesterday’s by-election.

The ruling party candidate garnered 606 votes, with Chigwanda receiving 384 votes.

Announcing the results at the close of vote counting process, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) ward 19 election officer, Mr Authur Chigumhadzi declared Cde Mukoto as the duly elected councilor for ward 19.

In an interview, Zanu PF winning candidate, Cde Mukoto promised the ward 19 Nyanga Rural District Council electorate development programmes that will transform the living conditions.

Chigwanda conceded defeat, attributing it to some irregularities.

Despite the cold weather, the ruling party supporters braved themselves for the victory announcement and burst into song and dance after the announcement of the final results

The voting pattern represented 40,1 percent of the registered voters.
