The Zanu PF Politburo has set up an adhoc committee chaired by Vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga to study and come up with solutions on rampant increases in the prices of basic goods.
This was confirmed by Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo at the end of the party’s 315th Ordinary Session of the Politburo at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare this evening.
Cde Khaya Moyo said the Politburo resolved to deal decisively with the issue of price increases.
“The President, His Excellency Cde E.D. Mnangagwa warned economic saboteurs that their days were numbered. The party is aware of people who want to cause confusion and inflict economic pain on our people,” said Cde Khaya Moyo, adding that the government will also soon announce measures to deal with the prevailing 3-tier pricing system.
Prices of most basic commodities have more than doubled since September last year mainly due to speculation and profiteering among producers and retailers.
Prices of school uniforms also went through the roof last week ahead of the start of the new school term on Tuesday.
Cde Khaya Moyo also said the Zanu PF Politburo resolved that it is time to rebuild and re-invigorate, adding that the time of retribution is over.
He said instead, all members must exert their energies towards voter registration and preparations for the forthcoming harmonised elections.
