Speaking to ZBC News shortly after the meeting, Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Rugare Gumbo said the Politburo also looked at the roadmap to elections and other issues affecting the party such as the restructuring exercise.

The meeting also discussed the refusal by the Minister of Finance, Mr Tendai Biti to release funds towards the conclusion of the constitution making process.

“ We were concerned about the delaying tactics of the MDC, particularly Minister Biti’s refusal to fund COPAC and even his failure to provide funding to key sectors of the economy,” said Cde Gumbo.

He said if the trend continues, COPAC officials should refer the matter to the principals to unlock the impasse.

Cde Gumbo added that COPAC needs at least US$3 million to complete the constitution making process and US$6 million to pay debts.

He however said the bottom line is that elections should be held this year.

“The Politburo is unanimous that elections should be held this year. Cde Chinamasa gave us a report on the election roadmap, taking us through the time frames,” Cde Gumbo added.

Cde Gumbo also said the Politburo could not waste its precious time discussing such petty issues like that of Tracy Mutinhiri as she is just a card-carrying member of the party, adding that she could resign if she so wished.
