Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo says the untimely death of National Consultative Assembly (NCA) member and war veteran, Cde Don Kwayedza Muvuti came as a shock and is a great loss to the party.

In the condolence message the party described Cde Muvuti as a celebrated nationalist decorated with a rich history of the liberation struggle where he survived four serious attacks from the Ian Smith regime.

Cde Muvuti was elected Deputy Secretary General deputising Cde Edgar Tekere during the 1979 Central Committee meeting held at Chimoio Mozambique.

He was also appointed the chief representative of Zanu to the Mozambican government.

During the Lancaster House negotiations, Cde Muvuti remained in Mozambique until Zimbabwe achieved its independence in 1980.

After independence, he continued serving as Deputy Secretary General. 

In 1984, he was elected deputy secretary for finance at the Central Committee meeting held in Harare where he deputised Cde Enos Nkala.

After independence he also served as the first black board chairman for Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation and later as a board member at Zimpapers from 1990 to 2000.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the Zanu PF NCA.

Cde Muvuti who passed on yesterday has not been well for some time having been diagonised with cancer in 2013.
