Midlands Province Zanu PF Women’s League and youths held a massive demonstration at the party’s headquarters in Gweru against the National Political Commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere and Gweru businesswoman Mrs Simeli Dube accusing the pair of using their financial muscle to destabilise the party as well as plotting to topple the government of Cde Robert Mugabe.
The demonstrators walked through the streets of Gweru to the party headquarters waving placards with messages that accused Mrs Dube of using money to destabilise the party, undermine the party’s provincial leadership as well as corruptly acquiring gold mines and land for residential stands.
Singing liberation songs, the demonstrators called for the dismissal of the two from the ruling party.
The Women’s League presented a petition to the party’s Provincial Secretary for Administration Cde Perseverance Zhou who was standing in for the provincial chairlady Cde Elina Shirichena for onward transmission to the national executive.
Cde Zhou commended the Women’s League and youths for organising a peaceful demonstration.
In a related incident, hundreds of Zanu PF supporters have held a demonstration in Bindura demanding the expulsion of the Cde Kasukuwere from the party.
The demonstrators were also demanding the expulsion from Zanu PF of Cdes Dickson Mafios and Wonder Mashange.
The three are being accused of having planned to topple the President Cde Mugabe and install Cde Kasukuwere as the next president of Zimbabwe.
They are also being accused of fanning regionalism and tribalism as well as insulting and disrespecting the party’s leadership and running parallel structures.
Cde Kasukuwere, Cde Mashange and Cde Mafios are also being accused of disrespecting war veterans saying at one time Cde Kasukuwere described the freedom fighters as drunkards and taxi drivers.
Meanwhile, the demonstrators have handed over their petition to Cde Martin Mavangira, a Zanu PF Central Committee member who is expected to hand it over to President Mugabe on Wednesday this week.
