The Zanu PF department of environment and tourism has called on the nation to adopt standards that promote the conservation of the fauna and flora to keep the country`s tourism vibrant.

The party`s secretary for environment and tourism, Cde Prisca Mupfumira made the call while officially opening a seminar held at Hwange National Park.

Zanu PF provincial secretaries of environment and tourism from all the party`s wings from the ten provinces as well as those representing all the wings at national level are attending a two day seminar aimed at promoting appreciation, understanding as well as implementation of the party`s strategies on the conservation of the natural resources.

According to Cde Mupfumira, the secretaries must identify the areas that have a connection with the liberation struggle as they can be upgraded to national shrines and be used as tourist attractions.

“In Chinhoyi there are the seven heroes we need to make sure where it happened, the place is identified. There`s a home where Mbuya Bona has lived. She is the mother of our President and we need to honour her. Let us desist from the practice of destroying homes because even our rural homes are still of interest to tourists who come to visit the country. this is exactly what they want to see,” she said.

Various provinces delivered their presentations highlighting some of the projects and initiatives they have undertaken in the areas of environment and tourism.

The seminar is aimed at promoting sustainable use of the environment as well as inculcating the culture of tourism.

The seminar which is held annually is being conducted for the third time and is done on a rotational basis in all the country`s ten provinces.
