Zanu PF First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa today officially opens the party’s 17th annual National People’s Conference in Esigodini, Matabeleland South province.
President Mnangagwa arrived in Bulawayo yesterday ahead of the official opening today.
The conference began in Harare with a Politburo and Central Committee meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Yesterday the conference shifted to Esigodini with delegates descending on Umzingwane High School, the venue for the annual indaba.
The ruling party has said the conference is focusing on the economy, so as to address challenges facing the country, among them fuel shortages, skyrocketing prices of basic commodities and the doctors’ strike.
An estimated 5000 Zanu PF party delegates are expected to attend the event that is scheduled to end on the 16th of December.
The conference is running under the theme: ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business: Peace, Unity towards an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030’.
