Zanu PF secretary for administration Dr Obert Mpofu has clarified the party’s position on the introduction of a new regalia saying the changes are meant to eliminate confusion during the forthcoming harmonised elections.
The new dispensation has seen numerous changes which have also cascaded down to the party regalia that members should wear to Zanu PF events.
According to Dr Mpofu, the party leadership respects former president Cde Robert Mugabe as the founding father of the nation and the new regalia is only being introduced to eliminate confusion among party members especially towards elections.
“The previous regalia had an inscription of the former president and we feel if that is allowed to continue it might confuse members during voting time and during elections so we want them to be familiar with the new dispensation which is led by the current president Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa because it’s his picture that will appear in most of the documents so we don’t want to confuse people,” he explained.
The current regalia being sold with an inscription of President Mnangagwa is also from individuals who have taken their own initiative and do not form part of the Zanu PF official regalia.
A committee chaired by the party’s secretary for information and publicity Ambassador Simon Khaya-Moyo has been set up to come with various designs which will be submitted to the Politburo for consideration.
Once the final design has been selected the, party will officially launch the new regalia and begin using it ahead of the harmonised elections.
