Zanu PF National Chairman Cde Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri has described the late national heroine Cde Thokozile Mathuthu as a very courageous, dedicated and hardworking daughter of the soil who played a huge role towards women emancipation, women empowerment and the improvement of disadvantaged people’s lives.
In an interview on the contributions and role played by the late national heroine who succumbed to cancer this Monday, Cde Muchinguri Kashiri said the late Cde Mathuthu was a courageous and dependable comrade who could be relied upon to bring up sensitive issues concerning the rights and needs of women and improve their lives as they were also equal in the fight for the freedom of the country.
“The increasing of the number of women in the central committee, introduction of the women’s quota in decision making positions, women empowerment and other benefits that Zimbabwean women enjoy today, are some of the contributions that the late Cde Mathuthu was part of,” said Cde Muchinguri Kashiri.
Cde Muchinguri Kashiri said Cde Mathuthu took part in the struggle and they worked very closely with each other, uniting the people when Zapu and Zanu were united.
She said the late Cde Mathuthu had the difficult task of distributing land in Matabeleland North during the land reform programme, leaving Cde Muchinguri Kashiri to take over the transport and welfare portfolio in the politburo, a position that demands transparency, accountability and a lot of sensitivity – and she found herself taking notes from the late heroine.
Cde Mathuthu also served faithfully in the gender department of the party and as Deputy Secretary for Women’s Affairs, the position that she held at the time of her death.
She will be buried at the national shrine on Sunday.
