Addressing members of the Zanu-PF Youth League National Assembly in Harare, Vice President Joice Mujuru said youths are the vanguard of the party and should protect the gains of the liberation struggle as many people perished to free the country from the shackles of colonialism.

“The discovery of the remains of an estimated 1000 people who were massacred in Mt Darwin should serve as a constant reminder that the country’s independence did not come on a silver platter, many precious lives were lost,” she said.

Zanu-PF Youth League Secretary, Cde Absolom Sikhosana said the leaders of the young people from the country’s 10 provinces should re-invigorate the party at grassroots levels so as to retain the structures of the revolutionary party.

The National Assembly meeting brought together youth leaders from all provinces where issues such as the indigenisation programme were discussed.

At the meeting, it was resolved that the government should adopt a ward based empowerment model.
