The Zimbabwe youth olympics team was today given a send off ahead of their participation at the 2018 Youth Olympics Games (YOG) to be held in Argentina from the 6th of October.
Two days before departing for Argentina to participate at the YOG, Team Zimbabwe was given a send off in the capital.
In a speech read by the Permanent Secretary in Vice President Kembo Mohadi’s office, Reverend Paul Damasane said there was emphasis on the significance of the global showpiece in shaping the future of Zimbabwean athletes.
Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Honourable Kirsty Coventry who is Team Zimbabwe’s chef de mission for the games outlined the significance of youth participation as a way of complimenting government’s vision of ensuring Zimbabwe becomes a middle income economy by 2030.
Team Zimbabwe is expected to leave for Argentina on Monday.
Zimbabwe is sending a team of 15 athletes for the YOG which will be held from the 6th to the 18th of October.
Since the event’s inception Yara Hansen boasts of being the only athlete to win a medal at the games.
