Action continued at the on-going 15th edition of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games with Queens Sports Club, Heath Streak Cricket Academy and the Bulawayo Athletics Club hosting cricket matches.
Male and female Under 18s and 23s have been battling it out for bragging rights in cricket with some top performances that has seen Bulawayo dominating proceedings across all divisions.
Bulawayo province beat Mashonaland East by 15 runs in a boys Under 18 match while Mashonaland Central edged Mashonaland West by 24 runs.
In the Under 23 category, ZTISU steam rolled past Mashonaland Central by 96 runs while Bulawayo got the better of Matabeleland South by 60 runs in another men’s encounter.
In the females’ category, Bulawayo showed their pedigree, routing Mashonaland East by 9 wickets before another 8 wicket victory over Midlands.
In the Under18 age group, Bulawayo province was at it again getting the better of Manicaland by 29 runs in an exciting encounter.
While a lot of talent has been exhibited during the games, cricket coordinator for the 15th edition, Francis Rashikayi, believes more can still be done in order to improve the sport.
Although some provinces have failed to field cricket teams, it is believed that if stakeholders in the sport can come together, better results can be achieved.
