The Zimbabwe netball under 21 team, Young Gems arrived back home from their Netball Youth World Cup (NYWC) tournament in Botswana with something for their supporters after landing position 9 out of 20 in their maiden appearance of the global show piece.

The Young Gems received a warm welcome upon their arrival.

The Young Gems showed character in their maiden appearance winning seven games and losing two at the hands of netball powerhouses Australia and neighbouring South Africa.

Team coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki believe the exposure was a learning curve given that it was the team’s first appearance at the prestigious tourney.

Zimbabwe Netball Association president, Letticia Chipandu said rubbing shoulders against netball powerhouses placed the Young Gems on the netball calendar.

Team captain Mercy Mukwadi attributed their loss to Australia to fatigue adding that the umpires were hard to them against their tie with South Africa.
