The Zimbabwe under 19 cricket team progressed to the plate semi-final of the Under 19 World Cup following a 7 wicket victory over Namibia today.
It was Namibia who won the toss and opted to bat first.
The Namibians however found themselves on the backfoot with Jurgen Linde falling prey to a Kieren Robinson delivery with only the third ball of the match.
Another wicket fell in the next over with Nkosilathi Nungu claiming the wicket of Henry Brink for only one run.
Wickets continued to fall for the Namibians who found themselves on 26 for 3 after 7 overs.
Eban Van Wyk top scored with 24 runs, an indication of quality of batting exhibited by a Namibian outfit that was bowled out for a paltry 113 runs.
Robinson, Wesley Madhevere and Dion Meyers claimed two wickets each as the Young Chevrons produced a commendable bowling display.
Needing 114 to win Madhevere top scored with 47 with Alistair Frost unbeaten on 30 and Tinashe Nenhunzi on 23 not out when the Young Chevrons reached the required target in the 20th over.
After today’s victory, the Zimbabwe U19 cricket team will now be focusing on their plate semi-final.
