The Zimbabwe under 19 cricket team’s hopes of qualifying for the world cup quarterfinals were quashed after a heavy 10 wicket defeat at the hands of India.

After winning the toss Zimbabwe opted to bat first as they sought for an upset that would take them to the quarterfinals.

At 109 for 3 Zimbabwe looked well on course for a respectable total but an impressive spell by Anukul Roy saw the Young Chevrons crumble to 154 all out.

Wesley Madhevere, Milton Shumba and captain Liam Roche surpassed 30 runs but none of the team’s batsmen could reach a half century with the Young Chevrons short of answers at the crease.

With a paltry target defend India were clinical with the bat.

Shubman Gill and Harvik Desai scored fifties as India defeated Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in their ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 match in Mt Maunganui.

The loss quashed Zimbabwe’s hopes of a quarter final berth with the Young Chevrons now having to settle for a place in the plate quarter final where they will meet Namibia on the 22nd of this month.
