The Sports and Recreation Commissionâ€™s Youth Education through Sport programme kick-started on Sunday with some exciting action from various sporting disciplines on show.Some enthralling junior talent drawn from 11 sporting disciplines was on display at the Zimbabwe Grounds where several community teams from the Harare Province jostled for the right to represent the province at the regional finals set for Marondera in May.
The Harare Province Youth Education through Sport publicist, Stonard Mapfumo, expressed satisfaction with the start of the programme highlighting the fruits such an initiative could bear to the nation in the future.
The Youth Education through Sport programme was initiated by the Sports and Recreation Commission in 1999 in Harare, before expanding to incorporate the whole country.
The programme which is targeted at youth seeks to develop young people spiritually, physically as well as socially through sport.
This yearâ€™s regional finals will be hosted by Marondera with the national finals set for Gweru next month.
