Team Harare Province for the 17th edition of the Youth Education through Sport (YES) games received a befitting send off from their patron the Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Miriam Chikukwa.

The Midlands capital comes alive tomorrow as the YES games explode.

Team Harare was officially sent off amid an exuberant mood and was challenged to compete in the games valuing integrity and sportsmanship since they will meet other athletes from other provinces.

Team Harare believes it can replicate last year’s form which saw it finish second.

Athletes making their debut appearance at the games are also looking forward to tap into the life skills approach that the YES games encompass.

The 10 provinces will battle it out in three sporting codes; volleyball, netball and football for both boys and girls while they will also receive mentorship on life skills and do tree planting as a social responsibility initiative.

Organisers of the YES games, the Sport and Recreation Commission said they are holding the games in Gweru as a way of assessing the readiness of the province to stage next year’s revised and expanded National Youth Games.
