It was indeed an astonishing display of shear power and mind-blowing speed by Patrick O’hara’s ‘Yellow Bug’ that left the crowd at Donnybrook in absolute amazement.

Needing only 2.5 seconds to get to 100 kilometres per hour, the ‘Yellow Bug’, which boasts of a V8 Chevrolet engine, asserted its dominance on the drag racing scene.

Driver and owner, Patrick O’hara, could not hide his excitement at possessing the quickest vehicle on show as he explained the features of his speed merchant.

Several vehicles in different categories battled for superiority, on an exciting day of racing which saw hundreds of drivers showcasing the power their vehicles possess.

Drag racing is a fairly new phenomenon on the Zimbabwean motor racing scene, having begun only last year.

It is a competition where cars or motor cycles specially prepared compete two at a time to be the first to cross a set finish line, from a standing start, in a straight line, over a measured distance.

The race track, known as a drag strip uses, an electronic timing system to determine the winner.
