Grammy-award-winning singer Toni Braxton has filed for bankruptcy for the second time, her lawyer has said.

The 43-year-old has revealed she is in millions of dollars worth of debt after a heart condition forced her to cancel a series of shows in Las Vegas.

Debra Grassgreen said it had been a very difficult decision for Braxton to make, who previously filed for bankruptcy in 1998.

The star is hoping to sell some of her assets to pay for off her tax debts.

Court documents state she owes between US$10 million and US$50 million.

Ms Greengrass said the star felt she had no other choice but to turn to the courts.

In 2008 Braxton pulled out of a series of Las Vegas shows after experiencing chest pains.

Doctors later told her she had been suffering from a form of angina.

Later that year, she performed on the series Dancing With The Stars, but missed the finale while recovering from surgery to remove a benign breast tumour.

Braxton’s hits include Un-Break My Heart and Breathe Again.
