In a development that will go a long way in giving local players the much needed platform to showcase their talent, the Zimbabwe 5-aside soccer team has begun preparations for the crunch FUTSAL World Cup qualifier 1st round 1st leg tie against Sudan set for Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza next month.
The Director for Development and Training, Frank Farakezi said such tournaments are essential in exposing players to international competition, adding that his association has put in place proper structures to ensure that players undergo adequate training.
Frank Farakezi said, “We got our confirmation on Thursday that we had been registered by ZIFA to compete at the FUTSAL 5-aside tourney which will start next month and since then we have been running around in order to make sure everything is now in place for the forthcoming big event.
“We are yet to name the squad which will represent the country when we date Sudan next month here at the Aquatic Complex.â€
The reverse fixture is slated for the 22nd of the same month in Sudan.
If Zimbabwe goes past the Sudanese, they will face South Africa.
Zimbabwe last participated at the FUTSAL World Cup tournament which was hosted by Egypt in 1996.
