A policy to promote safety at work is on the cards as stakeholders seek to facilitate increased production in key sectors of the economy.Â
Consultations involving members of the business community and government are in progress on the measures to ensure safety at work places in a move being considered as important in terms of creating favorable working conditions in mining, agriculture, construction, tourism among otherÂ strategic sectors.Â
The President of the Zimbabwe Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Mr. AbednegoÂ Chigwada said although there has been concern about fatal accidents at work places , it is in the interest of stakeholders that measures are put in place to ensure labor safety standards.
Government is working with the private sector in facilitating increased productivity through monitoring compliance of firms to safety regulations.
It is being anticipated that the proposed policy will among other factors restore productivity levels, retain skills andÂ facilitate the creation of new jobs.
